Sarah Kirkman set for new role in court
After an overwhelming victory, Sarah Kirkman will now have more than seven months to prepare for her new role. The more than 11 years she has spent as an assistant district attorney will help in that preparation, said local attorney Joe Crosswhite.

256 graduates receive their GEDs from MCC

Stephanie Harris has rectified the decision she made to drop out of West Iredell High in the 10th grade. Now married and the mother of Dylan and Madison, Harris wanted to make sure her children know how important education is. Harris, 30, was one of the 256 graduates who received their GEDs from Mitchell Community College on Thursday.

Troutman property, water taxes will remain the same
Town Manager David Saleeby told residents there will be no increase in town property taxes or water and sewer rates during fiscal year 2008-09. Saleeby delivered the news in an annual State of the Budget address to the Troutman Board of Aldermen during its monthly meeting Thursday night.
