Martha Turner Connor STATESVILLE Mrs. Martha Lorraine Turner Connor, "Punkin," 52, of 213 Brickyard, Statesville, died at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, following a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was born in Iredell County, March 19, 1961, and was the daughter of the late Elder Lewis Junior Turner and Martha Summers Turner. She was married to Almurray Connor Jr., who survives. She graduated from North Iredell High School and Mitchell Community College where she received her Associates Degree in Business Tech and her Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate. She worked at Iredell Memorial Hospital as a CNA. Also prior to this last battle, she worked in Weslyn Memorial Methodist Church and H&R Block as a tax preparer. In addition to her husband, Almurray Connor Jr. of the home, she leaves cherish the memory of her life her sons, Almurray (Michelle) Connor III and Zane (Charlene) Jones; daughters, Tameka K. Connor of the home and Amanda Horton of the home and both of whom were her loving caregivers; four brothers, Rev. Stanley (Lori) Turner of Statesville, Anthony (Linda) Turner of Greensboro, Randy (Mary) Turner of Mocksville and Steven (Regina) Turner of Statesville; one sister, Odessa (Ralph) Holmes of Statesville; a loving mother-in-law, Martha Corrine Connor of Statesville; and a host of other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m., at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Harmony. The Rev. Sylvester Reed will officiate and Rev. Norman Dudley will eulogize. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Connor will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to Mt. Nebo to lie in state at 11:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12 to 1 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of a brother, 137 Rydell Lane, Statesville, at other times.
