Here’s the new paint. It’s the same as the old paint, but Groucho’s Deli owner Brandon Sutton doesn’t mind.
He’s having the downtown delicatessen remodeled, and while on the phone answering questions he can be heard politely telling the stray walk-in customer the shop is closed for the week.

“It’s just about a gut punch,” Sutton said of seeing the restaurant devoid of customers. ”You want to be open.”
On the to-do list for the remodel is everything from new fans, flooring, booth seats and paint. Sutton said he’s not changing the layout of the restaurant though; he even went as far as to match up the new paint with what’s already on the walls.
Sutton explained the real reason for the remodel is the passage of time. The sandwich shop originally opened on Feb. 3, 2010.
“Over 10 years, things get worn and get to a point where they need to be replaced,” he said. “It’s really just a face-lift and an update.”
He said it’s also about providing the best customer atmosphere possible.
Groucho’s will reopen Feb. 1. It also celebrates its 10-year anniversary in Statesville on Monday.
