RESOLUTION DECLARING INTENT TO ABANDON AND CLOSE RIGHT-OF-WAY PURSUANT TO G. S. 160A-299 WHEREAS, an existing street right-of-way for the Old Mount Pleasant Collegiate Institute Alley, in the Town of Mount Pleasant, is an approximately 15-foot wide, beginning at Elm Street and continuing south approximately 1,200 feet, crossing MPCI Street and Walnut Street, as shown on a map available for inspection at the Town Clerk's office, is an unopened right-of-way that splits properties between North Main Street and North College Street in half; and WHEREAS, the procedure for closing streets and alleys as outlined in North Carolina General Statutes, Section 160A-299, requires that the Town Board of Commissioners first adopt a resolution declaring its intent to close the street and calling a public hearing on the question; said statute further requires that the resolution shall be published once a week for four successive weeks prior to the hearing, and a copy thereof be sent by registered or certified mail to all owners of property adjoining the street as shown on the county tax records, and a notice of the closing and public hearing shall be prominently posted in at least two places along said street or alley; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town of Mount Pleasant Board of Commissioners, at its regularly scheduled meeting of August 12, 2019, that it intends to close the right-of-way for the Old Mount Pleasant Collegiate Institute Alley and retain access and utility easements, and calls a public hearing on the question to be held at 6:00pm on Monday, September 9, 2019 in the Town Hall meeting chamber at 8590 Park Drive, Mount Pleasant. The Town Clerk is hereby directed to publish a copy of this resolution in the Independent Tribune once a week for four successive weeks next preceding the date fixed here for such hearing as required by G.S. 160A-299.
