Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Breon Borders (Duke/Statesville H.S.) recorded two solo tackles and three total during Thursday night’s preseason opener at Baltimore. The Ravens outgained the Jaguars 288-112 but managed just one offensive touchdown in a 29-0 victory.

Baltimore made five field goals and returned an interception for a TD.

The Jaguars’ second preseason game is at home Aug. 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Borders has intercepted a pass in each of his previous two preseasons while he was a member of the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills.

Carson, teammate finish third at golf tourney

East Carolina’s Kathryn Carson (Lake Norman H.S.) played this week in the Carolinas Golf Association 42nd annual Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C.

The junior teamed with Clemson’s Callista Rice, and they tied for third place in the Championship Division with Caroline Cahill (UNC Wilmington) and Natalie Petersen of Holly Springs.

Carson and Rice were sixth on the leaderboard after shooting a 1-under-par 71 in the first round. They followed that up with a 67 in the second round to finish at 6 under for the tournament.

SRPD registering for co-ed kickball

The Statesville Recreation and Parks Department is registering for the 2019 fall adult co-ed kickball program.

The league entry fee is $100 per team. The deadline is 5 p.m. Aug. 26. No teams will be accepted afterward. Team rosters must be submitted by the same day. An $11 late fee will be issued for players added to a roster afterward.

The umpire fee for co-ed kickball is $15 per game, per team.
