The North Iredell High School Capital Improvements Club golf tournament is Saturday at Twin Oaks.

The registration deadline is Thursday.

The tournament format is four player Captain’s choice and features a 12:30 p.m. shot gun start. The entry fee is $65 per player. That includes covering two mulligans as well as a rib eye steak and shrimp lunch at 11 a.m.

There will be prizes for the first, second and third flight winners, as well as closest to the pin on all par-3s, longest drive and a hole-in-one.

MHS tandem claims region doubles title

Mooresville girls tennis players Julia Abrams and Natalie White paired together to win the 4A Midwest Regional doubles championship Saturday.

The duo will compete in the 4A state tournament this week. They reached the second round there a year ago. The tournament is Friday and Saturday at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center.

Abrams and White will face Apex’s Camille Battle and Courtney Garcia in the first round.

North Iredell’s Jordan places first in wrestling tournament

North Iredell wrestler Chandler Jordan finished first in the 160-pound weight class during the 8th annual Honey Badger wrestling tournament over the weekend at St. Stephens High School.

It is a preseason competition.

Jordan qualified for the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A state tournament last year as a junior by virtue of his fourth-place finish in the West Regionals. He was 2-2 in Greensboro during the state tournament.

SRPD registering for youth basketball

The Statesville Recreation and Parks Department is accepting registration for the 2019-20 youth basketball program and will do so through Oct. 28. Practices will begin in November and run through January.

The youth basketball program is open to boys and girls, ages 5-18. Several leagues will be offered for the different ages including: 5-6 year old and 7-8 year old instructional leagues, 9-10 year old pee wee league, 11-12 year old midget league, 13-14 year old JV and 15-18 year old varsity. The age cut off for the program is Oct. 18, 2019.

Registration will be accepted at the following times and locations: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, Statesville Recreation and Parks Administrative Office; and during operating hours at the Statesville Fitness and Activity Center, 1875 Simonton Rd., when the administrative office is closed.

The registration fee is $25 for city residents and $35 for those living outside the Statesville city limits. A birth certificate will be required for any first-year participant signing up for either program.
