A California woman has been charged with felony neglect after authorities discovered a 78-year-old man had died in a locked bathroom several hours prior to a report being filed, said Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman.
Catarina Hosler, 57, of Santa Cruz has been charged with felony neglect of a disabled/elderly person. She received a $100,000 secured bond from a magistrate.
At around 9 p.m. Saturday, Alexander County officials received a report of a possible overdose, a news release stated. Officers responded to a residence in the Wittenburg community of Alexander County and met with a relative of the home owner, Bowman said.
Authorities said a 78-year-old white male was reportedly locked in the bathroom, but when officials entered the bathroom they discovered Timothy Havey dead in the bathtub.
Havey had reportedly been left in the bathtub for four or five hours by the relative, who has apparently caring for Havey, the release stated. Havey had a lengthy medical history.
After an investigation, Hosler was arrested. Hosler is a relative of Havey, but authorities did not state the nature of the relationship.
Deputies said she her first appearance in court will be June 10.
Alexander County EMS, Wittenburg first responders and the Alexander County Rescue Squad assisted in the investigation.
