A China Grove man was arrested on charges of driving while impaired with a child in his car after a wreck in Mooresville earlier this week.
Justin Kemp Deaton, 36, of China Grove, was charged with two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle while engaged in driving while impaired, according North Carolina State Highway Patrol Master Trooper Jeffrey S. Swagger.
On Sunday afternoon, a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling south on Perth Road near Hideaway Lane and crossed the centerline, colliding with a 2015 GMC pickup truck, according to Swagger. The results of a blood test for alcohol and other drugs are pending.
The Chevrolet came to rest in the roadway and the GMC ran off the road to the right and collided with a guardrail, he stated. Deaton was the driver of the Chevrolet, and had a child passenger in the vehicle. Both received minor injuries but neither was transported to a hospital.
The GMC was driven by Leon Earl Bouwens Jr., 66, of Mooresville. Carrie Drake Bouwens, 69, of Mooresville, was a passenger in the vehicle. Both received serious injuries and were transported by Iredell County EMS to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville, Swagger states.
