A man is facing charges of ramming a car into a house three times with three children in the vehicle.
Jose Gabriel Reyes, 22, of Old Miller Road, is charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse, one count of simple assault and two counts on injury to property.
Bond was set at $10,000 by a magistrate.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell stated, in a news release, that Reyes was involved in a domestic disturbance at a home on Cheshire Ridge Road Thursday.
While on their way to the call, deputies were told Reyes was ramming the residence with a vehicle and had struck the house twice, Campbell said.
Deputies found Reyes and a family member at the intersection of Cartwright and Cheshire Ridge roads.
Campbell said Reyes appeared to be intoxicated and was bleeding from his right arm.
Campbell said deputies learned Reyes had been drinking and had gotten into a verbal altercation with other family members.
He then took three children from the home and placed them in a vehicle, Campbell said. Reyes then struck the house with the vehicle three times, injuring one of the children and damaging both the vehicle and the house, Campbell said.
Campbell said the injuries to the child did not require medical attention.
Deputies called the Iredell County Department of Social Services to the scene to initiate a child welfare investigation.
Reyes’ criminal history includes shoplifting by concealment and injury to personal property, both misdemeanors.
