One man has been arrested and another is being sought after two suspects were witnessed stealing mail in Mooresville this morning.
James Banks of Virginia Beach, Virginia, was charged with misdemeanor larceny, obstruct and delay a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor possession of stolen property and misdemeanor damage to property. Banks was being processed on Friday morning. The other suspect has not been located.
At about 5 a.m., the Mooresville Police Department received a call concerning two suspicious individuals at the United States Post Office located at 123 Institute St., a release from the Town of Mooresville stated.
Two people were reportedly stealing mail from the outside mail drop boxes. A witness stated they left in a grey vehicle and provided a description of the vehicle. Sgt. Clark spotted the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Maple Street. Both suspects jumped and ran on foot from the area, the release stated.
The investigation is continuing.
