The Statesville Police Department has arrested two people and has outstanding warrants for a third in the theft of 73 firearms from a local business on Thursday.
Shanita Howell, 19, has been charged with accessory after the fact. Demaja Watts, 20, of Wilson Street has outstanding warrants for one count felony breaking and entering and two counts larceny of a firearm. A 15-year-old has been charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny of a firearm. The juvenile is in the custody of the Alexander County Juvenile Center.
Between 1:30 and 4 a.m. on Thursday morning, a forced entry at Bullseye Pawn on West Front Street occurred.
After talking with the owners, the Statesville Police Department confirmed 73 firearms, including five rifles, were stolen from the business. After forcing entry into the business, the suspects stole firearms located in glass cases, a news release states.
Statesville Police Department working in conjunction, with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm, began obtaining information and pursuing leads related to this crime. Authorities worked through the night to identify suspects and recover stolen weapons. Search warrants were executed at several locations. Five rifles, 12 handguns and a large amount of ammunition taken from the business were recovered.
The department anticipates more charges and more suspects as the investigation continues.
