A Mooresville woman has been charged with assault after an altercation with another woman reportedly regarding an ex-boyfriend, according to search warrants.
On Aug. 30, Monica Gail Mitchell, 27, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury. Gail received a $50,000 secured bond.
Detective Bradley Henderson with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office outlined the incident in a search warrant filed Aug. 30:
On Aug. 29, deputies went to Davis Regional Medical Center in response to a woman suffering multiple lacerations.
She told deputies she was at the Family Dollar in Harmony and was leaving the store when she met Mitchell in the parking lot. She said Mitchell was the former girlfriend of the man that she is involved with. She said she suspected Mitchell came to the store to try and get the man to go back home with her.
Mitchell and other woman began fighting with each other and, at some point, Mitchell took out a knife. Over the course of the fight, the woman sustained a number of lacerations. She also suffered from a broken hand while trying to defend herself.
The fight was broken up by the victim’s boyfriend, reports indicate.
Both the victim and her boyfriend stated Mitchell left the scene in a vehicle with another man.
Deputies filed warrants for Mitchell’s arrest the same day of the incident, and took her into custody at her apartment in the 700 block of Lark Glen Drive the next day.
She is due in court Sept. 23.
