Statesville police are investigating several reports of shots fired that occurred Monday night, the Statesville Police Department stated in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon.
Chief David Addison stated the incidents occurred in the 300 block of Holland Drive, Caldwell and Raleigh streets and 300 block of Westwood Drive. He said several gunshots were fired at the different locations, but no one was injured.
Addison said in a phone call on Tuesday that he wasn’t immediately able to provide an estimate as to how many shots were fired, although a house in the area of the incidents had been struck by stray bullets.
The gunfire is suspected to be retaliatory, Addison said, but he said it’s unsure at this time if the act was meant to intimidate or to harm.
“Once we are able to identify the persons involved, we will obtain warrants and they will be removed from our community,” Addison wrote in the post. “Innocent bystanders were in the areas of these incidents and could have been hurt.”
Anyone with information about the shooting or those involved is encouraged to call the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406, or Iredell County Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340. Callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to reveal their identity or testify in court and rewards of up to $1,000 are possible.
