Mooresville police arrested a Statesville woman Monday, charging her with vehicle theft, drug possession and other crimes after a vehicle pursuit, authorities stated in a news release.
Mariesha C. Currence, 20, of Statesville, was charged with motor vehicle theft, felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony speeding to elude arrest and driving with revoked license.
Currence received a $17,000 secured bond from a magistrate.
Around 1:53 a.m. Monday, officers attempted a traffic stop on a Toyota at Interstate 77 and Brawley School Road, police said. They added a check of the registration plate confirmed it was reported stolen to the Statesville Police Department.
Officers said the driver did not stop and a pursuit started. The pursuit went from Brawley School Road to Williamston Road, I-77 South and off Exit 28, where the driver traveled to Torrence Chapel Road, the release stated. Police said the driver got out of the vehicle and ran on foot.
Several law enforcement agencies established a perimeter and apprehended the suspect in a neighboring hotel, the release stated.
