A Rockwell man was arrested on kidnapping and other charges after he reportedly locked a woman in a bedroom, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Corey Lee Abbott, 37, of Brendas Loop, was charged Saturday with felony second-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor assault. He received a $20,000 secured bond when he appeared before a magistrate.
Deputies Ryan Dangerfield and Matthew Shoemaker responded to the 1000 block of Brendas Loop Saturday and described the following incident in a report:
A woman said her landlord locked her in a bedroom.
When deputies arrived, the woman came to the window and told them she couldn’t get out. Deputies entered and found her inside a bedroom that was locked from the outside by latch and padlock.
Shoemaker forced open the door.
The woman explained her landlord, Abbott, was screaming at her while she was in the bathroom of the home. She tried to walk away from him, but Abbot began pushing and shoving her into the bedroom. He then shut the door behind her and locked it from the outside.
She said Abbott then left the residence. The woman tried to call her boyfriend, who had a spare key, but learned he was 45 minutes away from the home. That’s when she decided to call law enforcement.
The Record & Landmark doesn’t identify victims of assault without their consent.
Abbott was located and arrested. State records show Abbott has a criminal record involving felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
