A Cleveland woman has been charged with filing a false report of child molestation to authorities, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.
On July 2, 41-year-old Lori Ferguson told deputies her boyfriend had molested her daughter, the release said. Ferguson claimed she walked in on her boyfriend assaulting the child as he was changing her diaper.
Authorities said the case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division and Ferguson recounted her story to detectives.
After detectives learned no sexual assault had happened, Ferguson confessed she had made up the accusation to retaliate against her boyfriend for angering her, the sheriff’s office stated.
On Friday, she was charged with misdemeanor filing a false police report and taken to the Rowan County Jail. Magistrates issued Ferguson a $5,000 secured bond.
