A sex offender was arrested for not complying with state law after deputies investigated an incident last week, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.
On Jan. 7, detectives looking into a domestic violence incident learned Timothy Elijah Bryant, 50, was residing at a home in the 200 block of Trailway Drive in Statesville, according to the release. The release said Bryant was previously registered at an address in Vale, part of Lincoln County.
State records indicate Bryant was convicted in 2005 on nine counts of indecent liberties with a minor.
Registered sex offenders are required to report in person and provide written notification of a new address to both the sheriff’s office of the county the offender last registered, and the sheriff’s office of the new county of residence.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said the change must be done within three business days after the change of address to the sheriff of the county of last registration and within 10 days after the change of address to the sheriff of the new county.
Deputies state evidence shows Bryant had been at the residence since May 2019, according to the release.
Bryant was charged with felony failing to register as a sex offender and was issued a $15,000 secured bond.
He was convicted on the same charge in 2013 in Gaston County, according to state records.
Bryant is scheduled to appear in Iredell County District Court Jan. 29.
