A local man was arrested after authorities reported seeing a drug transaction occur on Deaton Street.
Jeffrey Todd Turner Sr., 49, of Lakeview Drive, is facing charges of possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver Schedule VI and maintaining a vehicle for sale of a controlled substance, all felonies. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a public officer as well as driving while license is revoked. A magistrate set bond at $52,000.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said deputies with the narcotics division witnessed a hand-to-hand drug transaction Saturday on Deaton Street.
Sgt. L. Hayes and Deputy C. Little with the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement team (ACE) stopped the vehicle in the 1100 block of West Front Street.
The driver, Turner, fled on foot, and was apprehended after a brief foot chase, Campbell said in a news release.
Campbell said Turner and his vehicle were searched and officers found multiple bags of crack cocaine, packaged in a way indicating they were for sale, 20 lorazepam pills along with various items of drug paraphernalia.
It was also learned Turner’s driver’s license was revoked and that there were multiple outstanding orders for arrest for failure to appear.
Turner’s criminal history includes felony counts of sale or deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substance, fleeing to elude arrest, conspiracy to possession cocaine, breaking and entering, DWI, driving while license is revoked, shoplifting and resisting an officer.
