A South Carolina man was arrested on multiple drug charges after a traffic stop on Interstate 77.
Cameron Austin Turner, 26, of Summerville, South Carolina, was arrested Monday after the stop near the 63-mile marker. He was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance.
Members of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement team stopped a Kia Optima for a traffic violation on Monday, Sheriff Darren Campbell stated.
A K9 performed a free air sniff of the car during the stop and indicated the presence and odor of narcotics in the car, Campbell stated in a release.
Deputies searched the vehicle, uncovering 714.3 grams of marijuana in several different forms, from liquid THC, to gummy candies, marijuana buds, and a vacuum packaging device, Campbell stated. They also discovered a .223 caliber rifle and three fully loaded magazines for it as well as a hooded mask, gloves, and other head coverings throughout the vehicle.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives, and other detectives are still investigating this matter, the release states.
Turner was issued a $50,000 secured bond from a magistrate. Other charges may come from further investigation, Campbell stated.
