A deputy answering an alarm call Tuesday stopped a vehicle leaving the business and charged a Statesville man with breaking into a business.

Jonathan Derek Hager, 37, of Rolling Lane, Statesville, was charged with two counts each of felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny and one count of misdemeanor trespassing.

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said Deputy D. Souther answered an alarm call at 933 Oakridge Farm Hwy. early Tuesday morning. As he arrived, Souther saw a vehicle attempting to drive away from EF Belk and Sons Electric. Souther stopped the vehicle in a parking lot near the business.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division came to the scene to help with the investigation. Cooper wire, stolen from the business, was found in Hager’s vehicle, Campbell said.

Hager was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where a magistrate set bond at $10,000.

Hager was charged with breaking into the same business in September 2011, Campbell said.

Hager has an extensive criminal history including charges of forgery, larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, larceny and misdemeanor larceny and forgery.
