After Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a vehicle for traffic violations, they smelled an odor of marijuana and arrested the driver on drug and weapon charges, Sheriff Darren Campbell stated in a press release.

Terrez Dawan Weaks, 29, of Winston-Salem, is facing charges of possession of marijuana and possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon as well as misdemeanor drug paraphernalia.

Weaks received a $20,000 bond from a magistrate.

Campbell said deputies with the Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) team stopped a Jeep Cherokee Wednesday on Interstate 77 south near mile marker 56 deputies approached the Jeep to talk with the driver, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana, which prompted a search of the vehicle, he said.

They found 25 grams of marijuana, which was packaged for sale, digital scales, a loaded .380 Ruger handgun and $6,141 in cash, Campbell said.

In checking Weaks’ criminal history, deputies learned he was a felon with prior convictions for drug-released offenses, Campbell said.

His criminal history includes two counts of possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, misdemeanor possession of a weapon on a school campus, misdemeanor resisting an officer, five misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana, second-degree trespass as well as speeding and traffic-related charges, authorities said.
