A traffic stop led to the arrest of a Reidsville man on heroin charges.
Nicholas Brandon Ward, 36, is facing felony charges of trafficking heroin by possession and by transport and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was served with an outstanding warrant from Rockingham County. A magistrate set bond at $800,000.
In a press release, Iredell Sheriff Darren Campbell said deputies were called to assist another agency on a traffic stop in the 800 block of Turnersburg Highway Friday. A driver’s license check on the operator of a pickup truck revealed the Rockingham warrant and information was for law enforcement to approach with caution.
Deputy K. Robbins went to assist and detained Ward on the outstanding warrant. A search of the truck, Campbell said, revealed a large quantity of heroin.
Ward was released from custody in Rockingham County July 8 after posting a $500,000 bond on trafficking heroin and related charges.
Ward’s criminal history includes misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, driving while impaired and numerous driving-related charges.
