Two people were arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop Sunday.
Dustin Shane Bates, 30, and Katelin Nicole Ryan, 23, both of Dogwood Estates Circle, were charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle for use of a controlled substance, both felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Bates was also charged with driving while license is revoked.
Iredell Sheriff Darren Campbell said, in a news release, that Deputy C. Little stopped a Chevrolet S10 pickup for a traffic violation at the intersection of Old Mocksville Road and Interstate 40.
Little checked and found Bates’ license was revoked, Campbell said.
Little requested assistance from Deputy H. Pennell and his canine, Brandi. Brandi, Campbell said, alerted to the possible presence of narcotics. A search led to the discovery of methamphetamine and paraphernalia, the news release stated.
Bates received a $10,000 bond and Ryan’s was set at $7,500 by a magistrate.
Bates criminal history includes numerous driving offenses and misdemeanor breaking and entering. Ryan’s criminal history is a charge of misdemeanor first-degree trespass.
