A Statesville man has been arrested in connection to an October crash that killed a bicyclist.
On Thursday, Adam Michael Lackey, 35, of Darty Lane, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle; he was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond.
Warrants indicate Lackey is charged with the death of 48-year-old William Kevin Dillon, who was killed Oct. 3 when he was struck by a vehicle on Mocksville Highway near River Hill Road, Master Trooper Jeffrey Swagger of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said at the time. The warrants indicate Lackey failed to reduce speed prior to hitting Dillon.
Swagger said Lackey was driving east and operating a 2003 Chevrolet when he entered the left turn lane behind Dillon, who was also riding east.
The Chevrolet struck the bicycle and Dillon was ejected from the bike. He was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem and later died.
Lackey was not injured and impairment wasn’t suspected.
State records show Lackey has a criminal history involving assault, drug possession, discharging a firearm into occupied property, larceny and breaking and entering.
He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 18.
Lackey did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
