A two-month investigation has led to a pair of arrests on numerous drug charges in Rowan County.

Mason White Hyde, of Rowan County, and Scotty West, of Davie County, were each arrested and face multiple charges. Hyde is currently in the Rowan County Detention Center in lieu of a $500,000 secured bond on charges of trafficking heroin or opium, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and distribute cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for the use and sale of controlled substances, conspiracy to traffic in opium and meth and possession of firearm by felon. West is currently being held in lieu of a $125,000 secured bond on charges of trafficking in heroin or opium and conspiracy to traffic in opium or meth.

The investigation began in May after the sheriff’s office received information from the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, a news release stated. Alexander County authorities informed the Rowan sheriff’s office that people were traveling from Alexander to Salisbury to purchase heroin and taking it back to the Alexander County area for use and resale.

The investigation revealed that Hyde was suspected of selling heroin in Alexander, Davie and Rowan counties, a release stated. A series of undercover buys were made from Hyde at his residence located in Salisbury and at other locations, the release stated.

A final undercover purchase was made, and Hyde and West were taken into custody, the release stated. A search warrant was executed in the 200 block of North Oakhurst Drive in Salisbury and an additional amount of heroin and crack cocaine, a firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash were found, the release stated.

Hyde has an extensive criminal record with charges and/or convictions in numerous counties including Rowan and the surrounding area. West has a prior record for narcotics possession and is known to authorities for his involvement in drug distribution in the West Rowan and Davie County areas, the release stated.
