The Iredell-Statesville Schools classes begin today across the county.

This impacts not only the students, and those taking them to school, but all drivers in the key hours when the buses and additional traffic will be on the road.

How much of an impact?

Iredell-Statesville Schools transports nearly 11,000 students daily using 210 buses, the school district reporterd. These buses travel around 13,300 miles using approximately 2,700 gallons of fuel each day.

When will this matter most?

The buses start rolling at around 5:30 in the morning and finish their evening runs by about 5:30 in the afternoon.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our students and strive to provide safe transportation on our buses,” said Kim Fox, director of transportation for I-SS. “Our mechanics and staff have worked diligently this summer to ensure that the buses are ready to roll on the first day of school. We ask that motorist please watch out for children and move cautiously when they see our big yellow buses."
