On Thursday, students returned to the Iredell-Statesville Schools.
Mixed in with the excitement of the first day was the watchful eye of local law enforcement.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office had deputies at all of the county schools.
“We were honored, and blessed to assist school administrators, meet and welcome back the children, as well as help parents who may have been shedding a tear or two,” Sheriff Darren Campbell stated in a news release.
“…We want all of our citizens to know we are committed to making and keeping, children, families, teachers and all school staff members safe. We are much more comfortable today knowing more deputies are on premises of our schools. This will be a first for many in our elementary schools.”
