OLIN—North Iredell won for the third time in four games Thursday, upending West Rowan 1-0 in North Piedmont Conference girls soccer action.

Sophomore Michaela Joyce scored the lone goal during the opening half. Junior Natalie Ottone played the full 80 minutes in goal for the Raiders and recorded the shutout.

The victory avenged a 2-1 loss to West Rowan in Mt. Ulla on April 2. It also came less than a week after the Raiders (6-7-1, 4-4) battled NPC co-leader Carson (12-3-1, 7-0) to a 2-2 stalemate before falling 5-4 in a penalty-kick shootout.

“Two tough ones,” noted coach Tyler Carter, whose Raiders are in the playoff hunt. If they qualify it would be the fifth straight season they earned a berth in the 3A state playoffs.

North Iredell is now third in the NPC standings, a half-game ahead of West Rowan (6-7-2, 3-4), and has two games remaining on its schedule: April 30 at home against NPC co-leader South Iredell and May 2 at East Rowan. The Raiders split the first meetings with those two teams, falling 3-0 to South Iredell but crushing East Rowan 5-0.
