OLIN—South Iredell clinched no worse than a share of the North Piedmont Conference championship on Tuesday night, beating North Iredell 1-0.
Lindsay Durham drew a foul inside the penalty area during the second half, and Erin Shaver converted the ensuing penalty kick.
Margaret Gourley had a stout outing in goal for the Vikings, and she earned the shutout.
The win completed the season sweep over North Iredell. The Vikings won the first meeting 3-0.
South Iredell (12-5, 9-0) can claim the NPC title outright with a win Thursday at home against Carson. The Cougars (13-4-1, 8-1) are vying for a share of the championship. The teams met Monday in China Grove. South Iredell scored in the second overtime to prevail 2-1.
North Iredell (6-8-1, 4-5) also finishes the regular season on Thursday. The Raiders are at East Rowan (1-15-1, 0-8). They enter the night tied for third in the NPC with West Rowan. North Iredell beat East Rowan 5-0 in the teams’ first meeting.
