TAYLORSVILLE—Ellie Goins belted a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning and Mooresville shut the door in the bottom half Thursday in a 7-5, come-from-behind victory over Alexander Central.
It was Goins’ ninth home run of the season for the Blue Devils, who trailed 5-2 after four innings. They scored three in the top of the fifth to tie the game.
Goins finished 2 for 4 with the two RBIs. Mariah Pearson and Caitlin Mann each went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Alea Seagle was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Cougars (16-5).
Kali Morton earned the pitching win. She went the distance, allowing five runs—one earned—on eight hits and a walk. She struck out three.
Kara Hinkle tossed the final 3 1/3 innings for Alexander Central and took the loss. The Blue Devils scored two runs on four hits against her. Hinkle struck out a pair. She relieved Faith Carrigan, who allowed five runs—three earned—on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. Carrigan struck out four.
It was the Blue Devils’ 14th straight win.
Mooresville (19-3) finishes the regular season Monday at Mallard Creek. With a win the Blue Devils would clinch the I-Meck Conference regular-season championship outright.
