As Iredell County renovates the Government Center South, asbestos must be removed from decades-old building materials.
The county posted an invitation to bid for an asbestos removal project at Government Center South, formerly the Lowrance Hospital Building. The invitation was posted Tuesday.
According to the bid invitation, tile, sealant and pipe insulation with asbestos will be removed from the second and fourth floors.
“We have renovated some floors of that building to use as offices space in the Mooresville area,” Iredell County Manager Beth Jones said. “This project is the renovation of old unused space to be used for offices. Since the building is older, some of the products used during those times were asbestos in nature so we have to properly remove them in order to renovate the space.”
Jones said the entire renovation project will take about six months.
