The 18th annual NC Blackberry Festival is coming this weekend to downtown Lenoir with lots of fun available for the entire family.
On July 12 the event begins at 4 p.m. with registration open for the Blackberry pageant, which takes place at 5:30 p.m. The festival and beer garden begins at 5 p.m.
Want to run in the Blackberry Glow Run? Registration starts for this event at 7 p.m. with the run starting at 8 p.m. And while you wait, listen to live music by Gotcha Groove beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Festivities continue from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 13 with vendors, food, music, children’s activities and blackberries for sale.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the free Blackberry Patch Kid Zone will be open. Hosted by Chick-fil-A and Water Life Church, kids will be treated to lots of fun including a special appearance from Superheroes, live pirate shows, touch-a-truck and more.
At noon, a special presentation of colors, the National Anthem and introductions will take place.
Attendees can listen to live music throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m. as Darren Bryant takes the stage, followed by Mitch Clark and Masten Cloer at 11 a.m., Chad Triplett and Two Lane Blacktop at 1:15 p.m., Chico and the Man at 3:15 p.m. and Alter Ego at 5 p.m.
Lots of opportunities to enjoy blackberries will be available as well including a blackberry eating contest, which kicks off at 10:45 a.m., a blackberry cobbler brigade at 12:30 p.m. followed by the serving of the world’s largest patchwork of blackberry cobbler at 1 p.m.
The party continues at 7 p.m. with the Blackberry Pitch as the Lenoir Oilers take on the Statesville Owls at Walker Stadium, 120 Vaiden St. SW, Lenoir.
