A pair from Georgia was arrested on felony drug trafficking charges at a Statesville hotel last weekend, said Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell.
Kennin Shammel Burns, 28, and Shaffon Keari Stokes, also, 28, of Jesup, Georgia were arrested on felony charges possession of methamphetamine, trafficking methamphetamine by possession, trafficking methamphetamine by transport, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.
Each received a $750,000 secured bond from a magistrate.
On Saturday, Deputies C.S. Little and H.G. Pennell checked out a narcotics complaint at the Quality Inn & Suites in the 700 block of Sullivan Road, a news release stated.
Campbell said deputies spoke with the pair and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming out of their hotel room. He added they also observed marijuana visible inside of the room.
Deputies received written consent to search the room and found three individual baggies of marijuana and ecstasy pills, the release stated.
Campbell said deputies also used a canine to perform an open air sniff around Burns' vehicle; deputies found a plastic cup with crystal methamphetamine on the driver’s side door.
