Friday After 5 is back.
Tonight’s event features classic rock, Motown and R&B band Motel Soap.
Motel Soap is a 10-member band - with an additional three members when performing with the horn section. Together they perform a playlist of classic hits from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
Founded in 2011, its members include Rick Almond on saxophone and vocals, Alex Bost on guitar, Joe Gminder on guitar and vocals, Lonnie Carpenter on lead vocals, Gray Fallin on drums and vocals, Mark Holland on keyboards and vocals, Carlton Jackson on auxiliary percussion, Mark Jennings on bass and vocals, and Donna McMillan and Elizabeth Cooke on backup vocals.
In 2011 Motel Soap was put together to play one show, but it went over so well the band just kept getting booked again and again.
The concert will be in downtown Statesville on West Broad Street in front of Mitchell Community College, from 5:30–8:30 p.m. Beer, wine, soft drinks, sweets from Andrea’s Ice Cream and Sweet Shop and food from Bristol Cafe will be available for purchase. Bring your chairs and enjoy a great night of music, but no pets, outside beverages, or coolers are allowed.
Concert goers bring cash to the welcome tent near the entrance to purchase their tokens before visiting the beer and wine tent. A selection of soda, water, wine, bottled domestic and local craft beer will be available. Craft beer on draft will be available from Fourth Creek Brewing and
Bristol Cafe and Catering will be serving authentic pressed Cuban sandwiches and grilled jerk chicken sandwiches with a mango chutney.
After this weekend, there are two Friday After 5 events remaining, with the Mystery Hillbillies playing Aug. 23 and Caribbean Roots on Sept. 6.
