A Mooresville man who received CPR after crashing into another car has been charged with failure to stop, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Trooper Kendall Huss said 80-year-old Michael Byrnes was traveling on Liva Lane toward Perth Road when his brakes malfunctioned. Byrnes’ 1957 Chevrolet Corvette then hit the front of Anna Riviera’s 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier.
Huss said Byrnes was incapacitated and given CPR at the scene before being taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. He added Byrnes seemed to doing well as of Wednesday afternoon.
He also said Riviera, of Statesville, didn’t suffer any major injuries from the wreck and rode separately to a local hospital.
Huss estimated that both cars were totaled after the crash, and that both drivers were traveling at the posted speed limit.
He charged Byrnes with failure to stop at a stop sign.
