A new local food spot has opened its doors with a unique menu.

Chick’n Fries, located at 110 N. Tradd St., brings flavors from Canada. It is a franchise with more than 40 locations there with a different name but it is the first of its kind here.

Owner Naveed Iqbal is not new to the restaurant scene as he previously owned Natural Grill Chicken of Mooresville. Iqbal is excited to bring something different to the Statesville downtown area.

“Especially because of the location there are not a lot of fast food options around here,” Iqbal said. “The location is prime… the heart of downtown.”

Before this location, the closest fast food chicken option for this area was around two miles away, Iqbal said, and he is looking to close that gap for the community. The business held a soft opening Saturday, one promoted in a Facebook post that was shared around 80 times. This reflected the new restaurant’s following as it has gained more than 500 likes on its page in two days.

“It has been phenomenal… it has exceeded our expectation,” Iqbal said about the soft opening and the city’s reception of the business. “People have been loving it.”

The menu offers never-frozen product, chicken that has been marinated for over 24 hours, fresh buttermilk and items made fresh daily. The specialty is poutine fries, which is a Canadian dish featuring fries, cheese curds and gravy.

Chick’n Fries also provides fresh milkshakes, Iqbal stated, without any ice cream. The business plans to host an official grand opening event this week, possibly on July 10, Iqbal stated.

Chick’n Fries is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., he said.
