A chase that started in north Charlotte Tuesday night ended in Statesville with arrests of two men on traffic charges.
Kenneth Patterson, 29, and Brandon Foreman, 30, were arrested after the pursuit came to an end on Knox Street near Pressly School. They were charged with driving offenses and running from officers when the pursuit ended.
Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s University Division attempted to stop a vehicle because they believed the occupants were involved in a crime “dangerous to life,” said CMPD Officer Thomas Hildebrand.
He said the chase continued to Interstate 77 north and the vehicle being pursued exited at East Broad Street and then turned onto Knox Street, where the two suspects fled on foot.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and Statesville Police Department all ultimately assisted in the chase. A CMPD K-9 unit and the CMPD helicopter also were involved.
Iredell Sheriff Darren Campbell said deputies deployed stop sticks, a device that deflates the tires, and assisted in the capture of the two.
When the two were captured, Hildebrand said, it was determined they were not involved in the serious crime. “In a nutshell,” he said, “the vehicle they were in matched the description of a suspect vehicle in a crime dangerous to life, which is why the pursuit took place.”
