Four children remain in critical condition after a crash involving two vehicles on Tuesday afternoon.
The Statesville Police Department said Wednesday afternoon that it is continuing its investigation of the crash at the intersection of Garner Bagnal Boulevard and Rickert Street. A Buick Rendezvous SUV carrying five children was traveling south on Rickert Street and pulled into the path of a semitruck heading east on Garner Bagnal Boulevard, the Statesville Police Department reported.
Authorities identified the driver of the SUV as Talisa Ramseur. She and one of the children were evaluated and released from a local hospital Tuesday. It has not been stated if she is related to the passengers.
Police also identified the driver of the semitruck involved in the crash as Stanley McNair; he was not injured in the crash.
On Tuesday, police said that all occupants of the Buick were taken to local area hospitals; four of the children were airlifted to Wake Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Police Chief David Addison was at the site of the crash and said three children were ejected from the vehicle.
Police said Wednesday four of the children are still in the hospital in critical but stable condition. Authorities said the occupants of the vehicle were not properly restrained.
The ages of the five children who were passengers in the Buick range from less than 1 to 9 years old, the release stated.
The release added no charges will be announced or filed until the investigation is complete.
