Young Individuals Pursuing Employment (YIPE) has been growing with the help of the community and shows no signs of slowing any time soon.
Through donations and the community support of Campaign 52, YIPE has more than 85 donors as well as around $9,000 that has been collected. The overall goal of Campaign 52 is to collect at least $52,000 to help support the salaries of the employed youth.
YIPE is currently at its employment capacity for the summer with four workers. The four paid staff members’ titled roles include executive director, office manager, assistant executive director and donation specialist.
“What our need is right now is to not deplete everything this summer,” said Zelda Turner, executive director of YIPE. “What we are asking and needing is for corporations to pick up the salaries for the summer."
YIPE is looking for around $4,000, with salaries being around $940 per employee. YIPE has recently received donations from Piedmont Healthcare, Randy Marion and the Foundation For the Carolinas.
“I wouldn’t dare say that’s enough,” Turner said.
Turner is always looking for more young individuals for the summer and would like to keep the current workers past the summer months.
“It really takes money,” Turner said. Salaries are not the only thing donations are utilized for; through donations they have bought supplies such as computers and cameras.
YIPE also holds a monthly training which is open to the public for individuals from ages 14 to 21. All participants of the training also receive pay for their time. The training for next month is on July 8-10 and is concluded with a fundraising event or charity night.
The July 18 charity night will take place at Red Buffalo Brewing Co. from 7:30-10:30 p.m. and will feature music from Roy Daye Jr.
