BOILING SPRINGS—Taylor Osborne supplied 20 kills and nine digs Tuesday as South Iredell, seeded 10th in the 3A West, defeated No. 7 seed Crest 25-12, 25-15, 27-25.
Marissa Meyerhoefer added 19 digs to go with her six aces, and Malina Harris handed out 25 assists and chimed in defensively with nine digs.
The Vikings (19-6) advanced to Thursday’s third round. They will play at No. 2 seed West Henderson at 6 p.m. The Falcons (27-6) defeated Carson 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 on Tuesday.
The winner of that game will play in the state quarterfinals Saturday against Thursday’s winner between No. 3 Marvin Ridge (29-3) and No. 6 Southwestern Randolph (25-2).
NCHSAA state tournament
PINEHURST—Mooresville’s Lauren Martin finished tied for eighth in the 4A state girls golf tournament. The two-day event at Pinehurst No. 5 concluded Tuesday.
Martin shot a 77 in the second round and finished with a 36-hole total of 150 (6 over par). The senior was one over and tied for third place after an opening round of 73 on Monday.
Pinecrest’s Jaclyn Kenzel paired 71s together to shoot 142 (2 under par) and win the state title.
Mooresville’s Megan Bornkamp carded back-to-back rounds of 88 and finished tied for 53rd in the 78-player field.
Pine Lake Prep’s Caroline Johnson shot an 83 in the first round and an 80 in the second to place eighth in the 1A state girls golf tournament. She finished 18 strokes off the winning pace set by First Flight’s Katherine Schuster (74-71—145, 1 over par).
