Pride 4, Owls 1

ROCK HILL, S.C.—The Statesville Owls kept it close Monday night but fell to the top-seeded Piedmont Pride 4-1 in the double-elimination Southern Collegiate Baseball League playoffs.

The Pride picked up two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Andrew Judkins had an RBI triple, and he scored on a wild pitch.

John Bakke worked 6 1/3 innings for the win. He struck out nine and allowed one run on four hits and four walks. Jason White tossed 2 1/3 innings for the save. He struck out five and allowed just two hits.

Mitchell Keener (Belmont Abbey) was saddled with the pitching loss for the Owls. He pitched six innings, holding the Pride to two runs—one earned—on three hits and four walks.

R.J. Conner (Catawba Valley C.C./Statesville), Luke Orr (Newberry), Hunter Dula (Wingate/South Iredell), Derek Dyson (Pfeiffer), Grayson Chapman (UNC Greensboro/Alexander Central) and Cole Chapman each had one hit for the Owls.

The loss dropped Statesville into the loser’s bracket. The Owls (20-20) host the Lake Norman Copperheads on Tuesday night.
