MOORESVILLE Laurene Mills McAllister, 97, of Mooresville, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. She was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Iredell County, to the late William Pinkney Mills and Emma Sloop Mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith McAllister, March 21, 1984; four sisters, Jessie Mills, Mary Wilson, Marie Isenhour, Dora Marlowe; and four brothers, Johnnie, Ray, Kenneth, and Hebron Mills. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and spouses, Frankie (Freddie) Coggins and Colleen (Rynn) Pope. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Chet Moore and Bryan (Lindsey) Pope; and two great-grandchildren, Bryson and Braydon Pope. Laurene was a devoted housewife to her family and had a great love for gardening and outdoor work. She was a lifelong member of Berea Baptist Church in Mooresville, where she loved working with Vacation Bible School, former Training Union services and assisted in teaching children. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 10, from 1 to 2 p.m., with a service following at 2 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church in Mooresville, with the Rev. Mark King and the Rev. Joshua Lathan officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
