STATESVILLE Lydia Marie Redd Hayes, 95, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019. She was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Galax, Va. Her parents were the late Alexander "Alex" Redd and Elizabeth Jennings Redd. She married James Delbert "Bert" Hayes, Feb. 20, 1939. He preceded her in death, July 3, 1983, after 44 years of marriage. Also, nine siblings preceded her in death. She was the last survivor. She was a member Bethany Presbyterian Church for many years and attended when able. She received the Life Membership pin for services in the church work. She was a member of the Happy Seniors Club for a number of years. She worked in textiles for years, first with P. McNeer Dillion and retired from Piedmont Knitting in 1990. She then spent some very memorable hours with the late Mary Lundy, Bessie Reves, and Annie Austin. She is survived by one daughter, Wilma Hayes Bass (Jack); four grandchildren, Ronny Bass (Pat), Jo Ann Bass Cook (Keith), Gayle Bass Taylor (Jody) and Trudy Bass Goforth (Robert); three great-grandchildren, Lorne Cook (Sonya), Lucy Cook and Elizabeth Goforth; one stepgranddaughter, Kimberly Hill (Scott); five stepgreat-great-grandchildren, Katie, Kaleb and Kara Hill, Emalee and Nathan Money; one great-great-grandson, Jackson Cook; and several nieces and nephews. She loved all her family and her church family and friends old and new. Services will be held at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m., with the family greeting friends following the service. Burial will be private in the church cemetery. STATESVILLE Mr. Jeffrey Brent West, 59, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the West family.
MOORESVILLE Fay Robbins Cook, 89, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, at her home. She was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Mecklenburg County, to the late James Winchester and Nellie Pippin Robbins. Mrs. Cook attended Davidson High School, and retired from Belk Department Store in Mooresville. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Mooresville; where she was involved with her Sunday school class, the Joy Class, and the XYZ Choir. Fay was also actively involved in the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Cook; brothers, James, Eugene, Carl, Jack, and Davis; sisters, Emily Karriker, Ruth Illingworth, and Colleen Davis; her beloved sons, Robin and Stephen; and granddaughter, Carri Cook. Mrs. Cook is survived by her son, Larry Cook and wife, Kay, of Troutman; grandchildren, Christopher Cook, Megan Cook (Coty), Katie Datre (Greg), Chase Bagwell, and Madison Cook; and 10 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 8, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Cloninger and the Rev. Eddie Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
