Tyrone Lemans Dye Jr., 17, of West Raleigh Avenue, Statesville, attempted second-degree forcible rape and second-degree forcible sex offense, $350,000 bond, Statesville Police Department.

A Statesville teenager already charged with assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery was recently arrested on a sex charge.

On Aug. 22, Tyrone Lemans Dye Jr., 17, of West Raleigh Avenue, was charged with second-degree forcible rape and second-degree forcible sex offense. He received a $350,000 secured bond.

Court documents indicate that Dye’s attorney filed for a bond reduction Aug. 28; the motion will be discussed when Dye appears in court in September.

Maj. Ron Chilton of the Mooresville Police Department said in an email Tuesday that the sexual assault was reported in May. A juvenile victim disclosed details and information regarding the suspect during an interview with The Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center, Chilton indicated.

He added the Statesville Police Department served Dye’s arrest warrants due to his Statesville address.

Warrants indicated that Dye sexually assaulted a 14-year-old female in late May 2019. The warrants were filed July 31.

This arrest comes more than five months after Dye was taken into custody for another violent incident.

On March 13, 2019, he was arrested and charged by the Statesville Police Department with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, attempted armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He received a $75,000 secured bond.

Police reported a 16-year-old sustained a grazing-type wound to the back of his head. The incident occurred in the 500 block of Brevard Street on Feb. 10. The teen was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center due to the location of the injury. He was treated and released.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the teen was robbed in a parking lot near his residence, police reported.

The Violent Crime Unit conducted an investigation which led to Dye being named a suspect. Police arrested two others in connection to the incident - D’Monte Ty’Yon Morrison, also 17, and a juvenile, whose name was not released due to age.

Chief Deputy Bert Connolly with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said Dye posted bail March 15.

Dye is due in court on the sexual assault charges Sept. 13.
