A Statesville teenager has been charged with firing a gun early Thursday morning near N.B. Mills Elementary School, according to the Statesville Police Department.
Police responded to a shot-fired call on Medlin Street seven minutes after midnight. An officer in the area saw two men hiding nearby, according to a press release.
Those men then fled toward the back of a house on Gray Street.
Police approached the home, spoke with the residents and got permission to search inside, where they said they found a shotgun, a stolen pistol and marijuana paraphernalia. Police also found shotgun shells and an unspent round.
Okeiro Tyquan Shuford, 18, who lives on 11th Street, was in the bathroom while police were searching the house, the release said. Shuford admitted to shooting a handgun outside.
He was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits and given a $1,000 secured bond. Police say more charges are pending.
