Woodland Heights Elementary School fourth-grader Naomi Edward won the NC Soil & Water Conservation Districts State Fourth Grade Poster Contest.

In order for Naomi’s poster to get to the state level of competition, she received first place in Iredell County and first place at the Area 8 level – competing against fourth graders from a 12-county region. She then won at the state level, competing against 8 Areas statewide. Her prize winnings totaled $255.

Each year the local Soil & Water Conservation District hosts contests for students in grades 3 through 9. The theme for the 2018-2019 contest was “Our Living Soil.” A photo of Naomi's poster shows the detail of her message on this theme. Her poster is on display at the Division of Soil & Water Conservation office in Raleigh. For more information about the contests visit www.iredellswcd.org .
