STATESVILLE Bettye Carolyn Tuck Byers, 91, of Statesville, went into eternal rest Monday, July 8, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House. Born Feb. 3, 1928, in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Ranson Tuck and Genevie Redding Tuck. Bettye was retired from Hunt Manufacturing. She also worked as a teacher at Headstart and a substitute teacher at Northview IB School. She was a mother to all, both her family and the community. People always came to her for business advice, and she was a historian of the Statesville area. She loved traveling, quilting, and solving word search puzzles. She also enjoyed teaching young ladies proper etiquette in dress and manners. She famously loved to wear flop hats. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Delaney Byers Sr.; son, Frank Delaney Byers Jr.; grandson, Antonio Byers; great-grandson, Evan Mykal Bullock; and daughter-in-law, Lorna Davis Byers. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Kenneth Byers, Sherman (Marian Dean) Byers; a daughter, Stephanie Byers-Parks (Eddie); grandchildren, Tonya (Neal) Murdock, Leslie Requel Byers, Kimberly (Chris) Henderson, Sharaya (Andre) Gilliam, Sherman Byers Jr., Marcus (Tina) Byers; great-grandchildren, Taryn, Joshua, Julian, Troy, Teigan, Eisley, Paisley, Naamir, Heaven-leigh, Surai, Aaliyah, Nora, Major, Yasmeen, Mya, and Cobyn; and great-great-grandchildren, Trevyn Murdock and Evan Byers. A celebration of life service will be held in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home Sunday, July 14, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. D. Danner officiating. Burial at Belmont Cemetery will immediately follow the service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Bettye Byers.
