Joe Reid Ketchie Sr. MOORESVILLE Joe Reid Ketchie Sr., 80, of Mooresville, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at home. He was born May 10, 1939, in Greensboro, and was raised by Noah Gordon Ketchie and Grace Morrow Ketchie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Ward Jr. Joe loved doing comedy routines for clubs and church groups. He was a member of Triplett United Methodist Church where he was very involved and served in many capacities. He was also a member of Mooresville Masonic Lodge #496 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Charlotte and Oasis Shriners of Charlotte, for 40 years. Joe loved the outdoors. He enjoyed farming, riding his Farmall tractor, gardening and woodworking, especially for his "whirly birds" which he was known for in the community. He was a die-hard fan of the UNC Tarheels and the Atlanta Braves. He was a very generous person and loved everyone that he met. He especially loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He worked in Law Enforcement and retired as the Tax Collector for Iredell County. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn Cagle Ketchie; children, Pamela Ketchie Ward, Joe Ketchie Jr. (Tracy) and Amy Ketchie Griffin (Richard); grandchildren, Kevin Ketchie, Hannah Ketchie, Molly Ward Byrd, Katherine Ward and Kathleen Griffin; great-grandchildren, Jax Johnson and Wesley Byrd; and uncle, Neil Morrow. Services will be held Saturday, July 13, at 4 p.m., at Triplett United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard Auten officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Family Life Center of the church, prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors and masonic rights. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
