STATESVILLE Louise Brown Smith, 91, of Statesville, passed away, Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Statesville, and was the daughter of the late Lee Columbus Brown and Nellie Blye Lackey Brown. She was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School, class of 1945, and was married to the late Harold Austin Smith, who passed away in 2006. She was a member of First ARP Church in Statesville, where she was a member of the church circle #2, member of the Walker Sunday school class, helped with church bulletins and served on the hospitality committee. In 1990 she retired from J.C. Penny Distribution Center after a 41 year career. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 15 years, where she and Sarah Adams delivered meals. Louise is survived by her sister, Doris Brown Crawford (Nathan) of Huntersville; and several nieces and nephews, Donna Skeen of Murrell's Inlet, S.C., Lee C. Brown III of Massachusetts, Carole Love of Matthews, Tom Brown of Blacksburg, Va., Becky Temple of Sunset Beach, Tricia Goff of Pfafftown, Mike Cowan of Charlotte, Ben Cowan of Harrisburg, Dr. John T. Crawford of Charlotte, Dr. Charles L. Crawford of N. Augusta, S.C., Sara Brown of Spartanburg, S.C. and Randall Lowery of Statesville. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Brown Clement, Virginia Brown Cowan; and two brothers, Lee Brown Jr. and James Thomas Brown. Funeral services will be held at First ARP Church in Statesville at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, with the Rev. Phillip McCoy officiating. The family will visit with friends in the church fellowship hall, following the service. A private burial will be held at Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery Monday, Oct. 14. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First ARP Church, P.O. Box 1607, Statesville, NC 28687; or Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
