Statesville Mr. Melvin Homer Troutman, 87, of Statesville, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Whiteville. Born in Iredell County July 11, 1931, he was a son of the late Baxter Troutman and Rachel Lippard Troutman. He was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church and retired from automotive sales. He enjoyed gardening, basketball and was very active at his church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Niblock Troutman. Survivors include son, Richard Troutman (Susan); daughter, Myra Thompson (Michael); four grandchildren, Elizabeth T. Kemper, Jonathan Michael Troutman, Erika Troutman and Ian Troutman; and one great-grandchild, Evelyn Christine Kemper. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. David Turner officiating. The family will greet friends at the church for one hour at the church, prior to the service. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be given to Bethel Baptist Church, 1162 E.
